The
club was founded in 1884 as Leicester Fosse F.C. playing on a field
near Fosse Road. They moved to Filbert Street in 1891, were elected to
the Football League in 1894 and adopted the name Leicester City in 1919.
They moved to the nearby Walkers Stadium in 2002,[4] which was renamed
the King Power Stadium after a change of ownership in 2011.
For
seven years Leicester played only friendly matches and in cup
competition but in 1888 they signed their first professional player,
Harry Webb, who received 2/6d (12.5p) a week. In 1891, Leicester joined
the Midland League along with local rivals Loughborough Town.
2016, Leicester won their first ever Premier League title in the football club’s 132-year history.
