Refugee Cat' Kunkush Reunites With Iraqi Family He Lost In Greece

This video from 2016 tells the story of Kunkush the cat. Kunkush was a beloved member of a family who became refugees when they fled Iraq for the safety of Europe. Travelling through Greece, cat and family became separated, sparking an international online search in hopes of reuniting them. The cat's family, comprising a woman and her five children, searched for hours before being forced to move on to the next transit camp.

The handsome Turkish Van cat arrived on the Greek island of Lesbos in a basket on a rubber boat last November with his family, who had fled violence in Iraq.

But during the crowded boat crossing to Greece, his carrier breaks and the frightened cat runs from the chaos. In one moment, he is gone. After an unsuccessful search, his family has to continue their journey, leaving brokenhearted.

As they were settling in Norway, little did they know some volunteers — Ashley Anderson and Amy Shrodes, who found Kunkush and named him Dias which is modern Greek for "Zeus", were determined to reunite him with his family.

By the aid of workers in Greece find the lost cat. And they were determined to get him back to his family, knowing how much his family has sacrificed already, "They cared enough about this cat to bring [him] with them." they are desperate to reunite them with the cat they love so much. A worldwide community comes together to spread the word on the Internet and in the news media, and after several months the impossible happens Kunkush’s family is found, and they finally get their happy ending in their new home. On Thursday, Kunkush flew to Norway, where his family was waiting for him.

Their lives may never go back to the way they were — but finally they're all together again.
