Cleveland police were still searching Monday for a man who they said filmed himself killing an elderly man, uploaded the video to Facebook and bragged about having committed many other homicides.
Suspect Steve Stephens, 37, stands charged with Sunday's aggravated murder of 74-year-old Robert Godwin, The slaying happened at about 2 p.m. Sunday, police said. The suspect, identified by police as Steve Stephens, is described as 6 foot 1, 244 pounds and bald, with a full beard. He was wearing a dark blue and gray- or black-striped polo shirt and is believed to be driving a white Ford Fusion, according to police.
In the video showing what appears to be the shooting of Godwin, a man resembling Stephens exits his car saying, "I found somebody I'm about to kill. I'm about to kill this guy this older dude." Stephens fired one fatal shot at Godwin's head, and he zooms in on Godwin's bloody body on the sidewalk before walking back to his car and getting inside. The shooter walks away from the bloody body, gets into a vehicle and leaves. The shooting happened on East 93 Street just south of the Interstate 90 in the city's Glenville neighborhood.
The police chief said authorities didn't know whether Stephens was still in the Cleveland area. There was no evidence Stephens had left Ohio. Police, on an urgent manhunt to find Stephens, were searching vacant homes in the area for any additional victims, They had yet to find additional victims.
Mayor Jackson said: 'We want to communicate to him that he will eventually be caught. He need not do any more harm to anyone, any innocent people, and any concerns and problems he's having we're here to have a conversation with him."
In another video circulating online, Stephens turns the camera to show an ID badge with his name, and says he is outside the workplace of a former girlfriend. He then blames her and his mother for his turn to violence, and says he's not afraid to "go to death row."
Police have warned residents in Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana and Michigan that Stephens could have fled to a neighbouring state and a $50,000 reward has been offered for anyone who can help capture him.
