On Friday morning, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that it has already reached its congressionally mandated threshold of 85,000 visas for the new fiscal year. The news comes just four days after the new application period opened up on Monday. It also comes amidst a growing call from the new administration to crack down on the abuse of the visa.

Since Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2017, the H1B has come under intense attack - almost the only Trump campaign rhetoric that is really biting even as the rest of Trump’s ambitious agendas have either bombed in Congress or stopped by the courts.
The Department of Justice said applicants or employees who believe they were subjected to discrimination based on their citizenship, immigration status, or national origin in hiring, firing or recruitment or referral, should contact Civil Right Division's Immigrant and Employee Rights Section (IER). However, USCIS temporarily froze the premium processing option this year in an attempt to reduce overall processing times.
what has changed now?
Well before Trump took office, the rate of H1B refusals on the grounds of insufficient paperwork have been rising. What has changed now is that the Justice Department, the USCIS and Department of Homeland Security have joined hands for an all out assault on checking what they call H1B fraud.
H1B workers now have a 60 day grace period after a job loss.
