Man Forcibly Removed From United Airlines Flight

A video showing a man being forcibly dragged along the floor of a United Airlines aircraft has provoked anger from viewers. According to Jayse D Anspach, who uploaded the footage onto Twitter, the flight was overbooked and when one extra passenger refused to leave, violently wrenched from his seat and physically dragged down the aisle apparently to clear a seat for airline staff. Videos of the scene have prompted calls to boycott United Airlines.

As the video gained attention on social media, there were mixed reactions about United's conduct at the airline's counter at Honolulu International Airport.

A passenger who refused to give up his seat on an overbooked United Airlines flight this weekend was forcibly removed and dragged off the plane. As the man is pulled out and dragged out of his seat, fellow passengers can be heard gasping at the use of disproportionate force and the passenger's bloody face and exclamations of "Oh my God, no!" and "This is wrong."

The man in the video was one of the four chosen, Bridges said, but he became "very upset" and said he was a doctor who needed to meet with patients the next morning. When he did not leave willingly, security officers came and he was forcibly removed from the plane. according to witnesses the officer's brutal use of force causes the passenger to knock his head against the armrest across the aisle, knocking his glasses off, busting open his lip and silencing him, despite the pleas from fellow passengers.

United spokesman Charlie Hobart said airline employees named four customers who had to leave the plane and that three of them did so. He said the police were called when the fourth person refused to get off. While airport security staff were ejecting him, Mr Anspach wrote, his face was slammed against an arm rest, causing his mouth to bleed. The shocking scene raised questions about the common practice of overbooking and how far airlines will go to sell all of their seats. Particularly annoying, Mr. Bridges said, was that the airline was looking for extra seats for some of its employees.

This is a disaster for United Airlines. You can’t sugarcoat this at all. It was handled poorly but it was a confluence of things that can happen on any major flight on any major carrier,” Danishek said.

The airline has confirmed that the incident that occurred on Flight 3411 from Chicago to Louisville on Sunday evening was due to overbooking.

Canadian Transport Minister Marc Garneau declined to comment on the specific incident, but confirmed the government's plan to give airline passengers more legal protections.
