Prince Philip Will Stand Down From His Royal Duties This August


Buckingham Palace has announced Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth, will stand down from royal duties. The statement read: "His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has decided that he will no longer carry out public engagements from the autumn of this year.

Royal household staff were called to an emergency meeting on Thursday morning, causing a storm of speculation over the Queen, 91, and Prince Philip's health. The announcement was made after a meeting of household staff was called at Buckingham Palace at 10am on Thursday.

Prince Philip is set to celebrate his 96th birthday in June, and will continue to attend public engagements until August. He has a reputation for having a genuine concern for people.

The palace said while the queen would continue to carry out her full program of public engagements, she offered her full support to the Duke of Edinburgh, who turns 96 next month.
